Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection, (ICSI)

As in vitro fertilization, inracytoplasmia sperm injection microfertilization is an efficient method of infertility treatment. This method is more frequently used for treating male infertility.

It is used if the number of spermatozoids, motility, morphology or  results of sperm function test are clearly abnormal, resulting in an impaired ability of semen to fertilize.

In this case fertilization can be ensured with micro fertilization, also known as the ICSI method. Each mature egg is injected with one single spermatozoid. With the help of the ICSI method, fertilization can be ensured in almost all cases, including cases where the conventional IVF method has proved unsuccessful.

Micro fertilization is also the only available option to use clients’ own sperm in case if no sperm can be found in the semen sample, it can be extracted directly from the testes as a result of TESA manipulation. However, not all mature eggs get fertilized even when ICSI is used. The success rate of egg fertilization of both IVF and ICSI methods is approximately 70 - 80%.
